The Doobie Brothers - Best Of The Doobies

I’ve already established that Soft Rock is just all right with me on this blog. I don’t care for the term Yacht Rock that much. I might watch the Yacht Rock documentary. I already had a two disc Doobie Brothers comp, The Very Best of the Doobie Brothers, when I got this. All of the songs on Best of the Doobies are on the first disc. However, the only song I actually miss from that second disc is "What A Fool Believes", and Best of the Doobies has the best songs from that first disc, so I’m actually more likely to play it.

As session legends (and future missile defense consultants?!) the Brothers Doobie are comfy in a lot of styles, and every song is locked in perfectly. The rhythm section grooves smooth and rocks hard. I like Tom Johnston’s vocals more than I like Mark McDonald’s, and I prefer the pre-drum machine & synth sound of their 70s work better anyway (though “It Keeps You Running”’s mix of reverb-y kit and dry farfisa drums does the song wonders). Every song is at the very least well-executed and artfully performed, if not that deep. In conclusion: they may not be brothers, but they certainly doo bie rockin’.

The Best of the Doobies by the Doobie Brothers is a good album, and I like it.
